The Ultimate Guide to Jadeite Quality and Grading

This spreadsheet provides a comprehensive guide to the gemological factors used to evaluate and grade jadeite (jade). It outlines the key criteria that determine a stone's quality and market value, including:

  • Transparency (Diaphaneity): Categorizes the jade by how much light passes through it, ranging from the highly prized "Glass-variety" (Bo Li Zhong) to lower-quality opaque levels.
  • Colour: Details the importance of hue (the specific color), saturation (the richness), and tone (the lightness or darkness), with a focus on high-value varieties like "Imperial Green."
  • Texture: Describes the internal mineral grain structure, explaining how fine-grained textures create a seamless look while coarser grains can result in a "dry" appearance.
  • Cut (Workmanship): Evaluates the physical shaping of the piece, including the symmetry of the shape, the artistry of the carving, and the quality of the polish.
  • Weight & Size: Notes the impact of carat weight and physical dimensions (like thickness in bangles) on the rarity and durability of the specimen.

The spreadsheet serves as a professional reference for understanding the specific attributes that contribute to the overall grade and desirability of jadeite pieces.

In 2026, beyond Maple Products, what unique Canadian products are a must-buy?

Beyond Maple Products: What Unique Specialties Does Canada Offer? What Souvenirs Are Worth Bringing Home?

Below are two examples of Canada's unique natural resources—or more accurately, its exclusive mineral and gemological treasures.

1. Canadian Jade

  • Is Canadian nephrite jade good? Is it worth buying? Does it make a decent gift?

Canadian nephrite jade boasts vibrant colors, excellent jadeization (gem-grade translucency), exceptional toughness, and a rich, oily luster.
Canadian jade is categorized into many grades. A select portion of premium-quality Canadian jade—commercially known as Polar Jade—accounts for a mere 1% or even less of the total output. It is exceptionally oily, vividly colored, and remarkably cost-effective in today’s skyrocketing nephrite market. It is highly worth acquiring and serves as a prestigious choice for both gifting and personal wear.
Why do many people say Canadian jade is low quality or cheap?
That is mostly based on hearsay from those who have never seen mid-to-high-grade Canadian jade. Alternatively, low-quality material floods the mainstream market, while the finer pieces are often sold without being explicitly labeled as "Canadian jade."

The Grading System of Canadian Jade

Canadian jade is divided into several tiers, ranging from Grade C up to AAA+, with quality progressing from low to high:

• Sculpture/Carving Grade (Grades B and C): This material is commonly used for large jade carvings, small ornamental displays, and very inexpensive beaded bracelets. It is what you typically see in most souvenir shops. Grades B and C contain significant black spots, impurities, and internal fractures, with uneven and dull coloration. Even when fashioned into bracelets, they lack a gemstone feel and look distinctly stony.

• Grade A: A single "A" generally qualifies as jewelry-grade. Compared to higher tiers, its color uniformity is weaker, but it is vastly brighter than Grade B and features far better jadeization. It looks unequivocally like true jade rather than mere stone. With a bit of luck, one can find a piece with AAA-level color at a Grade A price point. Many Grade A jade bangles resemble a landscape painting—capturing mountains, mist, and rivers within the stone—evoking a profound sense of artistic charm and poetic imagery.

• Grade AA: The overall color is more uniform than Grade A, with relatively fewer impurities, commanding a slightly higher price.

• Grade AAA & AAA+: The color is highly uniform and intensely green. This hue can manifest as a vibrant, radiant "Yang Green" or a deep, sophisticated "Spinach Green." The green is pure and completely free of gray undertones.
• Authentic Polar Jade: This material is exceptionally rare on the market today. It features a translucent, jadeized texture and a vivid, emerald-like green hue. With its gelatinous, translucent flesh, it is often described as "icy jade." It reveals a misty, ethereal interior with minimal impurities and virtually no black spots. It is highly translucent and semi-transparent, resembling a celestial fairyland. Because the green in many smaller pieces closely mirrors that of fine jadeite, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has compared this premium Polar Jade to top-tier jadeite, designating it as a collector-grade gemstone of immense value.

2. Canadian Ammolite and Ammonite

Ammolite is one of the three new gemstones discovered within the last 50 years and is classified as an organic gemstone.

  • Is Canadian Ammolite exclusively found in Canada? Where does it come from, and why is it considered so rare?

Currently, only the Ammolite excavated from the prehistoric Bearpaw Formation in Alberta, Canada, achieves true gemstone quality. In other words, the geographic source for gem-grade Ammolite is unique and exclusive. Deposits found elsewhere are merely fossilized ammonites that fail to meet gemstone standards.

Ammolite mineral resources are strictly limited, and the annual mining window is heavily constrained by weather. Coupled with the Canadian government's stringent natural resource conservation policies, this already non-renewable resource has become even scarcer. As an organic gemstone with shifting, kaleidoscopic colors, it is highly favored by enthusiasts of gemstone energy and metaphysics. Many believe that owning a piece of Ammolite shifts their aura and brings immense good fortune, earning it the title of the "Stone of Luck."

Ammolite seems scarcer than almost any other gemstone and possesses an enchanting allure; the moment you begin to handle and appreciate it, you are instantly captivated by its shifting colors.

It is as if Nature wanted to remind generations of humanity of the brilliant palette the Earth once wore—a true treasure of our planet. Ammolite can evoke the fiery red of autumn mountains, the ethereal dance of the northern lights across a starry sky, or the deep, mysterious hues of the primeval ocean. Yet, no matter how it transforms, it always mirrors the essence of our home, Earth.

  • Can Ammolite be worn as jewelry?

Absolutely. Ammolite can be fashioned into pendants, bracelets, and earrings. It is perfectly unisex and ideal for anyone looking to make a highly personalized, unique fashion statement.

  • What is the difference between Ammolite and Ammonite?

Ammolite: Generally refers to the gem-grade fragments or layers rather than the complete, unbroken fossil shell.
Ammonite: Generally refers to the entire, intact fossilized shell. For instance, the whole coiled fossil shells excavated in Madagascar are universally referred to as Ammonites.

  • How does Ammolite get its color? Which color is the most expensive?

The gemstone layer of Ammolite is composed of a mineral called aragonite, which underwent a geological metamorphosis under conditions of high pressure, low temperature, and an oxygen-deprived environment. This created a microscopic, layered structure on the surface. Through the optical phenomena of light diffraction and interference, it produces the brilliant rainbow spectrum we see.

Blue and purple are the rarest and most valuable colors. However, blue and violet wavelengths are naturally harder for the human eye to capture compared to red and green. If you ever encounter a vivid, bright purple, an intense electric blue, or an aurora-like violet-blue, do not miss the chance to acquire it.

  • What are "Doublets" and "Triplets"? Are they valuable?

• Triplets: A triplet features a protective quartz or synthetic spinel cap on top, the Ammolite gem layer in the middle, and a backing material (which could be shale, black onyx, or even plastic) at the bottom. These stones have a high hardness and are highly scratch-resistant, making them ideal for everyday jewelry like rings and stud earrings.

Note: Some manufacturers layer multiple colored fragments together before polishing to artificially turn a two-color stone into a multi-colored rainbow piece.

• Doublets: A doublet typically features a optical coating on the surface and a stabilized backing underneath, such as natural matrix rock, shale, or black onyx. Doublets are predominantly composed of a single, naturally continuous gemstone layer, with very few instances of assembly or piecing.

  • What is the difference between a Doublet and a one-piece Solid Stone? What is a raw Ammolite specimen?

• Solid Stones (Natural Matrix Stones): In a solid stone, the gemstone layer and the underlying fossilized rock are completely unified, remaining exactly as they were when mined. This represents the most pristine, natural state and can be considered an authentic raw mine specimen.

Doublets were introduced to satisfy the technical demands of the jewelry setting market, ensuring that the gemstone layer remains perfectly flat, beautifully shaped, and of a consistent thickness for precision mounting.

  • What are the meanings and benefits of Ammolite in Feng Shui?

For a detailed guide, please refer to the specialized article:

The Practical Application of Ammonites and Ammolite in Feng Shui.

  • What is the commercial grading standard for Ammolite?

Ammolite is commercially graded as: A-, A, AA, and AAA.

The grade is determined by the color richness (the number of colors visible) and the vividness/brightness of the stone. While grading directly correlates with market pricing—meaning the more colors present, the higher the price—one should not blindly chase a high color count when dealing with such a finite, non-renewable resource.

If a piece exhibits an exceedingly rare hue combined with substantial gemstone thickness and exceptional brightness, it holds immense investment and collection value.

(4)AAA & AAA+

Ammolite

Ammonite.

斑彩石等级有:A-, A, AA, AAA

GIFT GUIDE

Your 2026 Zodiac Bracelet Guide: What to Wear & Why

In 2026 (a year of horse in the traditional calendar), balance is influenced by many factors—so it’s never “one-size-fits-all.” That said, we’ve created a practical zodiac-based guide that follows common seasonal patterns and color symbolism, with one goal: help you “fill what’s missing” and feel more balanced in everyday life.

For easy wear and daily use, we recommend using bracelets as the main reference.

Rat:

  • Rats are associated with Water energy. In 2026, the Rat faces a stronger “clash” energy—so a simple red cord is often chosen as a protective accent.
  • Personality vibe: gentle, adaptable, socially active.
  • Bracelet styling: go mainly with white tones (supportive, steady energy). Bamboo-inspired details are also great. Avoid green accents. Good options include white jade beads, a jade gourd charm, or a red cord with gold thread. Yellow crystal and warm “sugar-toned” jade also pair well.

Ox:

  • Ox energy is linked with Earth (with a touch of Metal). It’s strong, steady, and leadership-oriented—but can come across a bit rigid in communication.
  • In 2026, Ox signs may face more “hidden friction” in teamwork—so softer, friendlier tones help.
  • Bracelet styling: focus on pink tones and warm accents—pink crystal, carnelian, amethyst, gold beads. Cord colors that work well: red, coffee brown, gold, or a mix of red + gold.

Tiger:

  • Tigers carry Wood energy with a spark of Fire—sharp judgment, lots of drive, and big momentum (sometimes a bit impulsive).
  • Bracelet styling: lead with purple (calms the edge and adds clarity). Yellow also works well. Good choices: amethyst, sugar-toned jade, golden rutilated quartz. Cord colors that match: green, red, or beige (a balanced mix). Try to avoid white/silver and strong blue tones.
  • Key palette: green, red, yellow.

Rabbit:

  • Rabbits are linked with Wood energy—thoughtful, analytical, and detail-oriented, but sometimes slow to act.
  • In 2026, Rabbits may feel more sensitive in relationships and social circles, so steadier color choices help you stay grounded.
  • Recommended palette: green (your core color), plus yellow (warm, supportive), and a touch of black to “cool down” the overall energy. Try to avoid gold/white, and keep strong blues minimal.
  • Good match: green cords, jade-green pieces.

Dragon:

  • Dragons combine Earth energy with a softer Water influence—strong presence, supportive nature, but sometimes emotionally driven.
  • Bracelet styling: lead with green. Add a bit of red for warmth and momentum. Keep black minimal. A touch of white is fine to add clarity.
  • Good details: green cords, red cords, white jade, green jade accents, and gold elements. Chatoyant beads paired with red cord + gold thread work especially well.

Snake:

  • Snakes carry Fire energy with Metal influence—bold, driven, and strong-willed, though sometimes intense in communication.
  • In a strong Fire year like 2026, the key is adding cooling, softer tones so relationships feel smoother and decisions feel clearer.
  • Bracelet styling: try green cords with a touch of silver thread; combine with sugar-toned jade, turquoise, or white jade. Avoid overly dark red/purple-red, and avoid pure black (too intense).
  • Helpful “support symbols” in traditional style: rooster and ox themes.

Horse:

  • Horses are Fire energy—fast-moving, courageous, and action-driven, but sometimes too quick without a plan.
  • In 2026 (a strong Fire year), balance comes from adding a little “cooling” energy: light blues, soft silvers, gentle earth tones, and calm neutrals.
  • Bracelet styling: keep red moderate. Add green and purple for support, and bring in some water-like tones (light blue / silver) to soften intensity. Avoid white-heavy designs.

Goat (Sheep):

  • Goats are Earth energy with a touch of Wood—elegant, considerate, and refined, but sometimes overly focused on others’ opinions.
  • Bracelet styling: lead with gold/yellow (warm, confident tones). Sugar-toned jade and golden rutilated quartz are great. Add a little white, orange-red carnelian, or a light green accent to keep things fresh in a hot Fire year.
  • Support themes in traditional style: pig and rabbit.
  • Key palette: orange, golden yellow.

Monkey:

  • Monkeys are Metal energy with Water influence—strong on the outside, warm on the inside.
  • In 2026, Fire energy is stronger against Metal, so “Metal-supporting” colors help: white and gold, with calm earth tones.
  • Bracelet styling: focus on white jade, golden rutilated quartz, gold/silver threads, turquoise (sky-blue), and creamy “sugar-white” tones. Try not to go heavy on red.
  • Support themes in traditional style: rat and dragon.

Rooster:

  • Roosters are pure Metal energy—disciplined, determined, but sometimes stubborn.
  • In 2026, stronger Fire energy can feel challenging, so adding Water-like tones helps balance the overall feel.
  • Bracelet styling: white jade with gold thread, plus turquoise or blue accents. Black cords with silver thread can also work well. Support themes in traditional style: snake and ox.

Dog:

  • Dogs are Earth energy with Fire influence—loyal, steady, and protective.
  • Bracelet styling: white jade, green jade, sugar-toned jade, turquoise—paired with green cords and a touch of silver thread to keep the energy flowing. Try to avoid strong red-heavy designs.

Pig:

  • Pigs are Water energy with Wood influence—warm, gentle, thoughtful, and sometimes perfectionistic.
  • In 2026, the best approach is keeping the flow smooth: add Wood tones (greens) to guide and balance the overall energy.
  • Bracelet styling: wear more green—green jade mixed with white jade, plus green cords. Support themes in traditional style: rabbit and goat.

Friendly note: Color “dos and don’ts” in zodiac culture come from traditional observations of nature and seasonal cycles. Think of it as a lifestyle reference—useful for daily adjustment, not a fixed rule that decides your fate.

Rare Canadian Gemstones: The Best Souvenirs Found Only in Canada

Polar Jade, Ammolite & Ammonite — Geological Treasures Born of the Canadian North

Canada is home to some of the world's rarest gemstones — stones that cannot be found anywhere else on Earth. For travelers visiting Canada, whether for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a family vacation, or a once-in-a-lifetime journey, Polar Jade, Ammolite, and Ammonite fossils offer something no ordinary souvenir shop can match: a piece of Canada's geological soul.

💡 Quick answer: The most unique gemstones found only in Canada are Polar Jade (Canadian Nephrite Jade), Ammolite (formed from 70-million-year-old ammonite fossils in Alberta), and Ammonite fossils. All three are rare, meaningful, and impossible to find once you've left Canadian soil.

Visiting Canada for FIFA World Cup 2026? Bring Home Something Truly Canadian

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is bringing millions of international visitors to Canadian cities including Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary for the very first time. If you're making the trip, you'll want a souvenir that genuinely represents this extraordinary country — not something mass-produced that could have been made anywhere.

Polar Jade and Ammolite are sourced almost exclusively from Canadian soil, shaped over millions of years by the unique geology of the Canadian Shield and Alberta's ancient seabed. They are lightweight, durable, and easy to carry home — and truly impossible to find once you've left Canada.

Polar Jade (Canadian Nephrite Jade): Strength, Harmony & Endurance

Polar Jade, also known as Canadian nephrite jade, is one of Canada's most prized natural treasures. Treasured for its high density, fine-grained structure, and naturally rich, oily luster, it reveals a depth and warmth that distinguish true nephrite from ordinary stone. With time and wear, Polar Jade often develops a deeper saturation and a softer, more radiant glow — an evolving beauty long appreciated by jade collectors worldwide.

Traditionally associated with balance, protection, and endurance, Canadian nephrite jade is valued not only for its exceptional durability, but for its living character and timeless elegance. It is one of the finest quality nephrite jades in the world, rivaling the legendary jades of Hotan and Siberia.

Ammolite: Canada's Rarest Living Gem

Found almost exclusively in Alberta, Canada, Ammolite is one of the world's rarest organic gemstones — rarer than diamonds, emeralds, or rubies. Formed from fossilized ammonite shells over 70 million years ago, it is prized for its extraordinary iridescent colors — vivid flashes of red, green, blue, and gold that shift with the light and angle of view.

Ammolite symbolizes transformation, vitality, and positive energy. In Indigenous traditions, it is known as the "Buffalo Stone" and is considered a powerful healing gem. Each piece of Ammolite is entirely unique — no two stones share the same color pattern — making it one of the most collectible and unmistakably Canadian souvenirs in the world.

Because Ammolite forms only in Alberta's Bearpaw Formation, it is only commercially available from Canada. Once you leave, it becomes genuinely difficult to find.

Ammonite Fossils: Ancient Life Preserved in Canadian Stone

Ammonite fossils are the prehistoric marine shells from which Ammolite forms — preserved as spiral-shaped remnants of an ancient inland sea that once covered much of western Canada. While ammonite fossils are found in many parts of the world, gem-quality Ammolite occurs only in Alberta's Bearpaw Formation — making Canada the sole commercial source of this extraordinary material.

Ammonite fossils offer a direct, tangible connection to Earth's deep past, when marine life flourished in the Western Interior Seaway over 70 million years ago. For history lovers, fossil collectors, and curious travelers alike, they are one of the most meaningful things you can bring home from Canada.

Thoughtful Souvenirs Designed to Travel Home

Easy to carry, exceptionally durable, and timeless in design, Polar Jade and Ammolite are ideal souvenirs for international travelers. Unlike fragile keepsakes or generic merchandise, these gemstones are built to last generations. They will not break in your luggage, fade over time, or lose their meaning.

Sourced almost exclusively in Canada and shaped over millions of years by extraordinary geological forces, they are not items easily replaced once you return home. Choosing them during your visit means bringing back something genuinely tied to this land — not a souvenir that could have been bought anywhere in the world.

Why Polar Jade, Ammolite & Ammonite Are Canada's Most Meaningful Souvenirs

What sets these three Canadian gemstones apart from any other souvenir is their authenticity, rarity, and origin:

  • Found Only in Canada — Polar Jade from British Columbia, Ammolite and Ammonite from Alberta's ancient seabed
  • Millions of Years in the Making — Formed by geological forces unique to the Canadian landscape
  • Rich in Cultural Meaning — Associated with strength, protection, transformation, and continuity across many traditions
  • Timeless & Collectible — Treasured by collectors, jewelry lovers, and gift-givers worldwide
  • Naturally One of a Kind — No two pieces are ever identical; each stone is a singular work of nature
  • Certified Authentic — Each piece from Natural Gems Canada comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from a Canadian Gemologist

Discover Authentic Canadian Gemstone Souvenirs

Bringing home Polar Jade, Ammolite, or an Ammonite fossil is more than purchasing a souvenir — it is taking with you a fragment of Canada's deep natural history, found nowhere else in the world. Each piece is individually inspected and certified by a Canadian Gemologist, so you can be confident in what you're bringing home.
